Construction Innovation Achievements 2001 to 2008
CRC for Construction Innovation has produced a document reviewing the achievements of the research centre from 2001 to 2008.

The brochure brings together information from the major research areas supported by Construction Innovation: Sustainability, Safety, Digital Modelling, Infrastructure, Procurement and Skilling, tools and outreach.

Key projects from each of these areas are documented, including the award winning Your Building, LCADesign, Safer Construction, Sydney Opera House Exemplar and BRITE projects.

The brochure is an important document both as a record of the achievements and as a starting point to discover more about the valuable research completed during the lifetime of the CRC.

Implementing Building Information Modelling (BIM) in Australia
In late July, two industry presentations chaired by Tom Fussell, Queensland Department of Public Works were held in Sydney and Brisbane. Attendees came from a broad spectrum of the construction industry: owners, designers, constructors, operators and from the public and private sectors. More information.

Sponsorships to Stanford
Construction Innovation, Stanford University and Stanford Australia are pleased to announce the recipients of four sponsorships to undertake Stanford University’s Center for Integrated Facility Engineering (CIFE), two-day Virtual Design and Construction Summer Program and the five-day Virtual Design and Construction Certificate paper, to be held in September 2008 at Stanford University, California. More information.

Re-Lifing Commercial Buildings
Re-Lifing is the process where existing buildings undergo significant refurbishment or transformation in order to extend their useful life. It allows owners to improve the serviceability of their buildings and apply the principles of ecologically sustainable development (ESD). The Your Building web portal at www.yourbuilding.org has a range of re-Life resources and project reports, developed by the CRC for Construction Innovation, as well as extensive information on sustainable commercial buildings. More information.

Indoor air quality estimator
The CRC for Construction Innovation has developed a prototype software tool for estimating indoor air quality in commercial buildings. The Indoor Air Quality Estimator is an office design tool for selection of materials, office equipment, ventilation filtration to optimise indoor air quality and allow control of indoor air pollutants. SB08 Melbourne
SB08 will run in Melbourne from 21-25 September. As an auspicing society, the CRC Construction Innovation will hold one of the series of special forums to discuss opportunities for innovative, integrated processes and how they can improve efficiency and sustainability in the built environment. Construction Innovation has engaged the influential speakers Bruce Rauhe (Walt Disney Parks and Resorts), Tristram Carfrae (Arup) and Tony Stapledon (Leighton Contractors).

A practical guide to safety leadership launched by Tom Fisher
The CRC for Construction Innovation is pleased to announce the launch of A Practical Guide to Safety Leadership, in Canberra on 24 June. The guide is the follow-up resource to A Construction Safety Competency Framework: Improving OH&S performance by creating and maintaining a safety culture. Guests were welcomed by Governing Board Chair, John McCarthy, before the guide was officially launched by Federal Safety Commissioner Tom Fisher.

The guide contains information on safety critical positions and safety management tasks that companies should implement to achieve a positive safety culture. This includes practical information and examples for companies to implement the framework on a step by step basis, including a checklist of practical steps that can be followed so that large and small companies can customise the framework to meet individual organisational needs.

The guide contains industry case studies from small and large organisations which have implemented the competency framework within their organisations.

The guide can be downloaded free of charge, or hard copies ordered online.
