Research contribution to theory: |
| The establishment of corporate objectives, regarding ecological, social, ethical and economic responsibilities, which inform business practice, has been gaining credibility in the business sector since the early 1990s. This new focus has led to the need to identify measure and report on previously unidentified elements of business impacts. How has this move towards greater corporate responsibility become evident in the provision of major economic infrastructure projects? An initial review of literature was undertaken on critical success factors in construction. Very limited literature was discovered which made a link between the corporate responsibilities of the project proponent and the identified project CSFs. A further review of literature relating to corporate social responsibility and urban infrastructure provision revealed that a comprehensive mapping framework, from corporate objectives to intended, anticipated and actual outcomes and impacts has not yet been developed for the delivery of urban infrastructure. Such mapping (supply, demand or value chain) is however undertaken in other industries (i.e. manufacturing) to improve production or service efficiencies, and to address defined corporate responsibilities. This research willseek to establish a value mapping framework for major economic infrastructure projects via an action research based collaboration with Brisbane City Council, through implementation of a soft system methodology as detailed by Checkland. |
