Construction Innovation will host a special forum at the World Sustainable Building conference (SB08) in Melbourne on 24 September.
The forum will focus on innovating and integrating for sustainability.
Innovation and integration in the design, products and technologies incorporated in a building or infrastructure project is very often influenced, if not controlled, by the operating environment and the processes and tools applied.
This session examines how to maximise opportunities for innovative, integrated processes in the planning, design, construction and facility management (i.e whole-of-life) of our built environment, and in so doing improve the efficiency and sustainability of the industry.
Speakers include:
Dr Ben Schwegler, Chief Scientist of Walt Disney Imagineering Research and Development and a consulting professor at Stanford University who heads Disney’s Environment, Materials and Infrastructure Group. Dr Schwegler and his team have developed integrated infrastructure models, which have resulted in a more efficient theme park and resort design, including novel water treatment plants enabling the first closed-loop control of wastewater treatment plants. Dr Schwegler will present on the topic of Imagineering: Inventing, simulating and delivering new technologies to improve the sustainability of the built environment.
Mr Tristram Carfrae, a structural engineer, Principal Director and Arup Fellow. Mr Carfrae is responsible for the design of an impressive array of award winning buildings and is regarded internationally as a leading designer of sporting stadia and light weight long-span structures. He is behind the design of
The Water Cube - Beijing’s National Aquatics Centre for the 2008 Olympics, and an impressive portfolio of facilities created for the 2000 Sydney Olympics, including the RAS Exhibition Halls, the Dunc Gray Velodrome, and the Olympic Tennis Centre. Mr Carfrae will speak on the topic of
Technology and tools improving sustainability in structural engineering.
Dr Tony Stapledon, Director of Stapledon & Co and a change leader with over 20 years' experience in senior management and consulting. Dr Stapledon has extensive knowledge of sustainability as an organisational strategy and growth opportunity, and provides consulting services to major Australian and global companies on sustainability, strategy, and workplace change. He has a PhD in economics, an Honours degree in architecture, and post graduate qualifications in industrial relations and human resource management. Dr Stapledon will speak on the topic of Cultural and behavioural change for sustainability.
SB08 will bring together the conclusions of the 12 SB07 Regional Forums from around the world, the World Green Building Council Congress, the Sustainable Building Challenge and UNEP’s Sustainable Building and Construction Initiative.
