The workshop covered issues of interoperability in domain-specific languages, including those used within Architecture / Engineering / Construction ( AEC) industries. Professor Drogemuller and Dr Steel contributed expert knowledge in the area of Industry Foundation Class (IFC), the data model specification used in AEC industries.
The paper presented gave a detailed explanation of IFC - its purpose, how it is defined, and how it is used - and explained its current shortcomings and challenges going forward. Other attendees expressed interest in IFC as a challenging example of a domain specific specification in terms of its size, complexity, and the importance of interoperability in the highly collaborative domain of AEC.
