Project description

Completion of the deliverables for Project 2001-007-C Managing Information Flows with Models and Virtual Environments has demonstrated the feasibility of generating Bills of Quantities and estimates from 3D models of buildings for reinforced concrete and formwork. These are two of the most difficult trades. In addition, the ability to link through to virtual environments, structural design software and project management software has been demonstrated. Manipulation of the building model using intelligent agents has also been demonstrated. Stage 2 will focus on extending the quantity take-off and estimating process to cover the other trades in a typical building project. This will involve extending the internal object model and rule sets for quantity take-off, the development of some simple user interfaces into the building model to support entering room finishes, ceiling layouts, door and window hardware schedules and the addition of construction joints to elements.

Automating the extraction of quantities (Refereed conference paper)

Automated estimator (Brochure)
