Research contribution to theory: | | The research project explores the theory of corporate social responsibility (CSR) within an Australian context. The research begins by comprehensively identifying the dimensions of CSR from the perspectives of multiple stakeholders groups. These views are then empirically examined within the Annual Reports of Australian publicly listed organisations to examine the level of attention given to CSR by Australian firms. Exploration of the dimensions of CSR and level of attention given to CSR by Australian organisations expands the current context of CSR research. The relationship between CSR and firm financial performance will then be investigated to determine whether CSR impacts on financial performance. Currently CSR research is dominated by research conducted in Europe and the US. Further this research will contribute to the body of knowledge by also providing a better understanding of the dimensions and impact of CSR on firm financial performance. |
Research contribution to industry practice: | | Impact on industry practice: This research project will provide valuable information to organisations that are considering the implementation of CSR strategies as well as to those organisations that wish to examine the impact of existing CSR approaches. This research will provide industry with the knowledge of the significant dimensions of CSR considered important by numerous stakeholder groups and provide data regarding the dimensions of CSR currently being focused on by Australian organisations. Further, the research identifying the dimensions of CSR and the corresponding relationship to financial performance will enable organisations to make informed decisions regarding CSR strategies and estimate the impact and return for shareholders. Thus the results of this study will enable organisations to explore the relationship between CSR and other organisational and societal outcomes. |
