John McCarthy:Newly appointed Chair of the CIB Marketing and Communication Committee

Mr McCarthy was elected as Chair of the Committee at the Triennial CIB World Building Congress, held in Cape Town in May. CIB is the International Council for Research and Innovation in Building and Construction, established by the United Nations in 1953 following the rebuilding of post-war Europe.

CIB is a global network for international exchange and cooperation in research and innovation in building and construction, in support of an improved building process and of improved performance of the built environment.

Mr McCarthy will work with the CIB Marketing and Communication Committee and the United Nations to build membership in key developing nations, with a focus on China and India, as well as stengthening membershipin the United States and globally. A key strategic focus of his tenure will be disseminating technologies to developing countries.

This is the second CIB Board appointment for Mr McCarthy, a recognised leader in the property industry. In addition to his role as Chair of Construction Innovations Board, Mr McCarthy also serves as Chairman of the FM Action Agenda Implementation Board.

His other current appointments include Chairman of AEH Property Pty Ltd; Chairman of Centrecare (NSW) Property Committee; Director of Australian Building Codes Board (ABCB) and Director of the International Council for Research and Innovation in Building and Construction (CIB). His professional roles have included Chief Executive of ANZ Property Investment and Advisory Services and Chief Executive of Colonial Mutual Properties.
