A series of workshops for Building Information Modelling (BIM) industry practitioners will kick off at the Sydney Opera House on 21 July, as part of a process for seeking industry input into the development of national guidelines for implementation of BIM in Australia.
This project is intended to promote uniform guidelines for open, interoperable BIM usage and business processes for building and infrastructure projects over facility life cycle to avoid overlap and duplication as experienced with 2D CAD.
The guidelines are intended to address the use of digital modelling over the whole project life cycle, and for all participants in project delivery: owners, designers, contractors and managers.
The first draft of the guidelines will be presented, and an overview of Australian case studies that have implemented BIM technology in a range of varying project types and disciplines. The presentation will be followed by a workshop discussion seeking feedback on the draft guidelines, and to identify implementation issues for BIM to the whole Australian building industry.
