September 2008

By Dr Keith Hampson
Chief Executive Officer
CRC for Construction Innovation

Aligning with industry associations

In addressing the complex issues of importance to the construction industry in the areas of best practice, innovation, sustainability and productivity, Construction Innovation’s links with key industry associations are critical. They enable our dissemination of applied research for the improvement of construction practice ― this has been and remains of utmost importance to the CRC.

With the support of industry partners and associations, Construction Innovation has developed a strong education program comprising workshops and a series of successful implementation kits, specifically designed for use by practitioners on the job and in the field. Some of the recent highlights include:

EEA (Engineering Education Australia) and Construction Innovation are working together to deliver five further Relationship Management workshops across Australia during October to December 2008.

The PCA (Property Council Australia) has recently taken on the management of the Your Building sustainable commercial building website. The announcement of the PCA’s commitment was made at this month’s Built Environment Meets Parliament by Minister for the Environment, Heritage and the Arts Peter Garrett.

Another exciting event coming up in Canberra next month is the AIPM (Australian Institute of Project Management) National Conference. In addition to sponsoring this event, the new Construction Innovation book of 2008 conference papers – Clients Driving Construction InnovationBenefiting from Innovation will be launched by Managing Director of John Holland Group, David Stewart.

Through these and numerous other associations such as ACA (Australian Constructors Association), ACEA (Association of Consulting Engineers Australia), ACIF (Australian Construction Industry Forum), AGIC (Australian Green Infrastructure Council), AIA (Australian Institute of Architects), AIRAH (Australian Institute of Refrigeration, Air Conditioning and Heating), APCC (Australian Procurement and Construction Council), ASBEC (Australian Sustainable Built Environment Council), FMA (Facility Management Association Australia), IAI (International Alliance for Interoperability), MBA (Master Builders Australia) and UDIA (Urban Development Institute of Australia) and others, we maintain relationships that enable mutual opportunities for the dissemination of critical industry information through a range of channels including conferences, workshops, forums, newsletters, trade journals and industry publications.
