Cameron Beard

Course of study:

Master of Building, Building Faculty, The University of Newcastle

Research topic:

Issues Affecting the Implementation of Building Product Models Within the Australian Construction Industry.

Start/completion date:

March 2003 July 2005

Research contribution to theory:

Much research has been undertaken to explore the benefits of using new technologies within the construction industry. While much of this research has explored the benefits of using such technologies, the issues affecting their implementation have not been explored to the same extent. This research seeks to explore and identify the issues affecting the implementation of a specific technology in the form of the Building Product Model.

Research contribution to industry practice:

Many benefits have been highlighted for the use of Building Product Models yet their widespread use within the Australian construction industry remains minimal. A number of CRC for CI industry members have been involved in this research project, with a case study being used to highlight the issues affecting the implementation of Building Product Models. It is hoped that the identification of these issues will allow for them to be addressed by the construction industry as a whole.
